Utah-based ATK contract increased to supply ammo to Afghans

Alliant Techsystems, which has its armament systems division based in Clearfield, has received a $41 million contract modification to supply additional ammunition to the Afghan Security Forces.

The modification increases the value of an existing three-year contract that ATK signed in 2009 with the U.S. Army to locate and supply "nonstandard" ammunition to Afghan forces. This small-, medium- and large-caliber ammunition differs from that used by NATO troops and includes mortars and rockets.

"Timely delivery of quality munitions into the hands of those who protect freedom is a top priority for ATK," said Mark Hissong, vice president and general manager of ATK Small Caliber Systems. The Salt Lake Tribune
