Design for Layton WinCo complete

The "Cadillac" design Layton leaders want for the WinCo Foods Store should soon be pulling up to the curb. The city council, in a recent strategic work meeting, gave its consensus approval to the latest plan offered by WinCo Foods store officials. The council will take final action on the proposal, submitted by the Boise, Idaho-based grocery store chain, at its Nov. 18 meeting

The 94,682 square-foot WinCo Foods store is part of the 22-acre Fort Lane Village, a commercial-retail center being developed at 144 S. Fort Lane and Gentile Street.

As anchor tenant, the WinCo store will sit on almost nine acres of the multimillion dollar development. The store will be positioned on the far south side of the property, with the hope to have construction begin on the store next spring, officials said. The store will employ about 200 workers. WinCo has recently opened similar-sized stores in Ogden and Roy. Ogden Standard-Examiner
