With 2011 being just days away, Farmington seems perched on the verge of unprecedented growth. And with his responsibility to the residents of Farmington, Mayor Scott Harbertson is thrilled with the expectations facing his community in the New Year. “This is going to be an exciting year for Farmington,” Harbertson said. “We have several projects we have been working on for a long time, and many of them will start business this year. Most of those businesses will bring money into our community with tax dollars.” Leading the way is the new Harmons supermarket. The store is set to open its doors in May, closely followed by the opening of a new Cinemark theater complex in June. “Those are huge for us in Farmington,” Harbertson said. “They will sort of anchor a lot of other stores and restaurants and will help bring more interest to the area. “Harmons will open right as spring gets really moving along nicely,” Harbertson said. “Then the theater opens on June 28, which is a great time. It will be operating for the summer movies.” Harbertson had plenty of other good news for Farmington’s bottom line. With the addition of Sports Authority, Ulta Cosmetics and Station Park also nearing completion, a diversity of businesses will bring shoppers to Farmington.
