Architect firm hired to upgrade Bountiful power plant

The city council voted Tuesday to hire the architectural firm of Chris Layton & Associates to oversee the upgrade of the city's 200 West generating plant. Two new turbines will be installed at the plant, which currently features internal combustion engines that burn a mix of diesel and natural gas.

The project is expected to range between $22 million and $25 million before it is online. Earlier this year, the council voted to issue $15.2 million in bonds to help provide financing for the project. The bond package is being backed up new utility revenues, which will be generated by the implementation of a 5 percent rate increase effective Dec. 1. Ogden Standard-Examiner
