Morgan chamber of commerce unveils new economic development plan

The best way to improve economic development in Morgan County is to help existing businesses expand and capitalize on tourism and outdoor recreation, says the Morgan Area Chamber of Commerce. Albert Wilde, a chamber of commerce member would like to see a community events committee formed to coordinate tourist events, share resources and even create new events, such as hot-air balloon rides and job fairs.

Morgan city and county officials helped area business owners draw up a new economic development plan that asks Morgan County and the city to each donate $7,500 for the effort. Growth will depend on networking opportunities and keeping a database of tools and contacts that can help area businesses.

The chamber called on Morgan government officials to reduce restrictions on business development, such as the lengthy process of obtaining a business license. The chamber also would like to see county officials cooperate with state programs that offer business incentives, such as grants and loans. Standard Examiner
